What you need before connecting Hugosway to MT5
You need an active Hugosway MT5 account, the correct MT5 server name, your trading login, and the investor or trading password supplied by the broker. Download MT5 from an official source or use the terminal supplied by your broker, then keep the account type and server exactly as shown in your Hugosway welcome email. A wrong server can make a valid login look broken, so check the spelling before troubleshooting the password.
You also need permission to run Expert Advisors and to allow the Edgelog endpoint in MT5 WebRequest settings. The EA is read-only: it observes account history and reports closed positions to Edgelog. It cannot open, close, or modify a Hugosway order. If your environment blocks EAs, you can still export the account history and import it as CSV or Excel.
Step 1: Log in to Hugosway inside MT5
Open MT5 and choose File → Login to Trade Account. Enter the Hugosway account number, trading password, and the exact Hugosway MT5 server. Confirm that the terminal shows a live connection and that Market Watch is receiving prices. Do not use the investor password if you need to place trades; it is read-only and may not provide the terminal state you expect. For a journal-only connection, however, the account still needs to expose its history to the terminal.
Step 2: Install and authorize EdgelogSync
Download the MT5 build of EdgelogSync from Edgelog, place the file in the terminal’s MQL5/Experts folder, and refresh the Navigator panel. Before attaching it, open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors and enable algorithmic trading if MT5 requires that setting for an EA to run. Add the Edgelog API URL to the allowed WebRequest list, attach EdgelogSync to any chart, and paste the sync key generated in your Edgelog account. The EA only needs permission to send your trade events to Edgelog; it does not need permission to trade for you.
Step 3: Verify the first synchronized trade
Keep the Hugosway MT5 terminal running and close a small test position, or wait for the next position you close during normal trading. Within seconds, the trade should appear in Edgelog with its symbol, direction, entry and exit, size, swap, commission, and realized P&L. Add your setup, mood, notes, and chart screenshot in the journal — those are the details a broker statement cannot explain. If the trade does not arrive, check the EA status icon, the WebRequest URL, the account login, and the Experts tab for an error before reinstalling anything.
What Edgelog can and cannot sync from Hugosway
The sync path is Hugosway MT5 → MT5 terminal → EdgelogSync EA → Edgelog. It is not a direct broker API connection, and Edgelog cannot see a terminal that is closed or disconnected. When MT5 starts again, the EA reconciles recent account history so positions closed while the terminal was offline can be picked up. Historical trades from before installation can be exported from MT5 and imported into Edgelog as a CSV or Excel file.
Once the records arrive, Edgelog calculates win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown, R-multiples, equity curve, and daily P&L. Review the results by setup, session, symbol, and account rather than treating the broker balance as the whole story. The MT5 trading journal guide explains the same EA workflow in more detail, while the forex trading journal page covers the broader review loop.
A safer weekly review routine
At the end of each week, compare your strongest and weakest Hugosway sessions inside Edgelog. Look for repeated execution mistakes, oversized positions, or losses clustered after a specific time. Keep the broker connection focused on execution and let the journal hold the context: setup tags, mood tags, screenshots, and the rule you want to follow next week. The goal is not to blame the broker for a red day or to avoid every loss; it is to separate normal market variance from decisions you can control.
Hugosway does not need a special Edgelog connector for this workflow. If it provides an MT5 login and permits Expert Advisors, the standard MT5 setup is enough. If it does not, export your history and use Edgelog’s CSV/Excel import instead. Either way, your trades end up in the same free journal and analytics rather than in a second spreadsheet.
